Going inside Plaza Mayor, with a gallery treat
Sala de Bóvedas at the Casa de la Panadería is hosting an exhibition on the multi-award-winning film costume designer Yvonne Blake, winner of an Oscar, four Goya Awards, the National Film Award, and former president of the Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences of Spain. It offers a global look at the legacy of Yvonne Blake (Manchester, 1940 – Madrid, 2018), an experience in which to get to know the British designer better, whose life was closely linked to the city of Madrid. She stood out as a pioneering figure within the film industry, being a defender of gender equality in cinema.
The exhibition has been organized by the Association of Plastic, Performing and Audiovisual Artists of Spain (AAPEE) and is sponsored by Madrid City Council through the General Coordination area of the Mayor's Office and with the collaboration of Madrid Film Office , attached to the Delegated Area of Tourism.
It is the largest collection of Blake's original pieces ever exhibited, thanks to the support of one of Spain's leading costume companies, Peris Costumes, and contributions from private collectors, organizations and the designer's family. This brings together a wide variety of costumes, original sketches, and work photographs, as well as previously unseen projections.

Cocido - To warm up and feel at home, the best thing to do is to have a good soup or stew in Madrid. When the temperature drops below 20 degrees, every Madrid resident craves stew, which is much more than just noodle soup. The nationally celebrated meal dates back to at least the Middle Ages and makes thorough use of the bounty of the vast agricultural plateau that surrounds Madrid. At its most basic, cocido (stew) consists of vegetables, meats, and legumes, all cooked in a savory broth. Below are some of the best restaurants where you can try one.

Every year Madrid hosts a military parade that marks Spanish National Day, a day commemorating the country's cultural and linguistic expansion beyond the European continent. Personnel from the Armed Forces, Civil Guard, National Police, and Maritime Rescue take part in the parade accompanied by ground vehicles and aircraft.
During the event, which kicks off with the arrival of the King and Queen, the king inspects the troops and greets members of the government. Other highlights of the parade include the descent of a parachuter carrying a giant Spanish flag, the Spanish Legion marching with their pet goat, the solemn raising of the National Flag, which pays tribute to those who’ve died for their country, and the flypast of the Spanish Air Force.
