PRADO MUSEUM
This is one of the most important museums in the world, with European works ranging from the 15th to the 19th century. Some of its pictorial jewels belong to Velázquez, El Greco, Goya, Titian, Ruben, Bosch and many more. It is not a typical museum with an encyclopedic representation of all the schools (although in the 20th century efforts have been made to cover some important absences), but it shows the collecting desires of the Spanish kings for centuries. The history of the museum itself, as a building, is also very interesting. It was created in the 18th century as a Cabinet of Natural Sciences (a scientific research center) before being used as an art museum in the 19th century, which explains its peculiar disposition.
The Prado Museum, Thyssen-Bornemisza, and Reina Sofía are called The Art Triangle, due to their importance and their close proximity.

THYSSEN-BORNEMISZA MUSEUM
The Thyssen was born from a lease agreement (1988) and subsequent acquisition by the Spanish Government (1993), of the most valuable core of the private collection assembled over seven decades by the Thyssen-Bornemisza family, one of the most powerful in the German industry of the 20th century.
This museum came to complete the collections of the Art Triangle (formed in conjunction with the Prado and the Reina Sofía). In addition to adding various European works to the periods shown in the Prado, it has a very complete repertoire from the Impressionist era, a group of American paintings that is unique in Europe, and various currents of 20th century modern art (German Expressionism, Russian Constructivism, and Pop Art among others).

ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM
This is one of Madrid's oldest museums (dating from 1867) which, after a six-year renovation project costing some €65 million, reopened on April 1, 2014, with the aim of being 'the best archaeological museum in Europe and, therefore, in the world'. It traces the evolution of human cultures, from prehistoric times up to the 15th century, and the collection of artifacts includes finds from the Iberian, Celtic, Greek, Egyptian, Punic, Roman, Paleochristian, Visigothic and Muslim cultures. Remarkably, the great majority of pieces came from excavations carried out within Spain, illustrating the extraordinary continuity and diversity of human settlement in the Iberian peninsula.

LAZARO GALDIANO MUSEUM
The Lázaro Galdiano Museum ( Museo Lázaro Galdiano) contains a significant portion of José Lázaro Galdiano's private collection, which was donated to the Spanish state in 1947. The state then went on, in the following year, to create the Lázaro Galdiano Foundation for the management of the Museum and its all-important Library and Archives. Since 1954, the Foundation has also been responsible for publishing the prestigious Art Journal, GOYA.
Within the art collection lies a wonderful art gallery—essential for the study of Spanish art—featuring, among others, the works of Francisco de Goya. It is complete with highlighted works from a variety of European schools (Bosch, Cranach, Reynolds, and Constable), sculptures, and items of art, spanning a period from the 6th century AD until the first half of the 20th century.
