Madrid has a wide variety of great museums, but there is a lesser-known one that we love at AU Spain. It is the Sorolla Museum, one of the best preserved museum houses in Europe. It was designed by the painter Sorolla, a magician of light, who knew how to capture the essence of the Valencian coast. He lived in this house with his wife and children for many years.
The house has a permanent exhibition and a temporary one (currently, on the origins of his painting, and open from last December 20 to March 19). In addition, because it is the first centenary of the artist's death, a small exhibition has just been opened with the name "Sorolla is dead! Long live Sorolla!". The museum explains on his website that "it traces the life path of Joaquín Sorolla through the last years of his life and brings to light the enormous repercussion that his death had, both in the world of culture and society of his time, as well as the tributes that the painter received over the years". It is in the museum from January 24 to June 25.
Do not miss this museum: even if you are not very interested in painting, the little house is a rare jewel among the overwhelming buildings in the area. You are going to fall in love with this charming place, just like us at AU Spain!
