As you know, the Spanish Civil War was fought from 1936 to 1939, and then Francisco Franco's Dictatorship began. What you may not know is that many people of the defeated side in that war were sent to Nazi concentration camps in Europe. One of those most sadly known camp was the one in Mauthausen.
If you are interested in this part of our history, you can visit the exhibition Mauthausen: Shared Memories, organized by the Centro Sefarad-Israel and the Secretary of State for Democratic Memory, with the collaboration of the Community of Madrid and the German Embassy, among others. It is open from January 18th to June 17th, at the Centro Sefarad Israel in Madrid (Calle Mayor 69, close to Metro Sol and Ă“pera).
